A week ago i signed up with a Government aided institution as a part time teacher to teach Java and other programming languages. First the job felt easy but then within a week i realized what it means to be a teacher. There are so many things that I should take care of apart from teaching. Each and every student is different, their way of understanding is different and the most important thing their levels are different.
I am 23 now and just now I graduated to become an engineer, so I have been in touch with books till very recently but I never studied this seriously in my student days. I don't know what it is, whether it is the fear of being shamed in front of the students for not knowing something or whether it is my zeal towards teaching that is making me do this. But in any case, by the end of the day I am like a piece of wood. And yet the work is not over, I have to prepare for the next day's class.
But in one week I have learned two things, firstly, Its really hard to become a good teacher. Secondly, patience is the key. You have to listen to all the doubts again and again and explain till their doubts are cleared without showing any resentment on your face, one of the toughest thing to do,especially when you consider something easy.
My greatest benefit from this job has been that my patience limits have been renewed and enlarged. Apart form it I have been studying things that I left during my college days thinking that they were not important(Believe me... earlier my attitude was that nothing is important and within a week it has become like nothing is unimportant, don't leave any thing... lol).
I know I will leave this job soon and I will opt for a better paying job as a software engineer in next couple of months, but this experience will always be in my mind.
Being a Teacher..

You said it right when you said it takes patience. It's not easy dealing with several people with different attitudes and beliefs. I wish you well in whatever it is you choose to do in life.
Failures do what is tension relieving, while winners do what is goal achieving.
Hi there poping by to share some love
My sister was the most distructive pupil at school and teachers had her on detetion many times
she distracted others and being such a comedian kids were for every laughing out loud . teachers hated her at times
But this story has a twist my sister became a teacher herself teaching maori and a few years ago she went to a big teachers confrence and Yes you guessed it ....Her old teachers were present on the night she greeted them, sat and dabbed a little small talk then walked to her table
WeLL!! she won the Best teachers award that night and even had a spech for her shocked and dismayed teachers that taught her from the past . She had all the ole teachers laughing all night .
So my conclusion to this
You can never tell what a person could turnout to be,
so dont judge the obverious until you see the whole picture lol
